Motorola’s Re-Entry in Bangladesh

The market is already crowded with various smartphone brands. There are so many low to mid-budget mobile phones in the market. Local brand Walton is already in the leading position in the low budget smartphone market. There are also many Chinese brands Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, realme, and South Korean giant Samsung patrolling the market with great products. To grab a bigger share of the country’s mobile phone market Motorola came up with a gameplan to establish a plant in Bangladesh.

Local distributor of Motorola Mahmud Hossain said, “We would like to start exploring the options of introducing manufacturing plant of Motorola. He was hopeful, “It would also be our contribution towards the economy of Bangladesh,”

There is a 57 percent duty on handset imports. For local assembly and manufacturing, the taxes are 18 percent and 13 percent respectively. Having a plant in Bangladesh will help Motorola to penetrate the market.

Global pandemic Coronavirus has created new opportunities for mobile phone manufacturers. People are now doing their office meetings using smartphones. The education system is largely depending on the digital medium. To use the medium every student needs a smartphone. Therefore in a country like Bangladesh, the low-budget smartphone is now in high demand. Smartphone has become a necessity for everyone. This will help Motorola to take a big share of the existing smartphone market

Samsung has the highest smartphone market share with 33%. They are also manufacturing Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G locally. Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo also holds a significant market share of the mobile market. So to penetrate this market and take the lead Motorola has to produce high-quality smartphones at a low price. Having a plant is the first step to do that.
